ABOUT US

Experiential Holidays, Journeys and Expeditions

Located in central London, Niquesa Travel was founded to provide couples, families and small private groups with luxury holidays that are truly unique,  experiential and life-enhancing. With the reassurance of being a fully ATOL protected and ABTA bonded operator,  with over 70 years of combined expertise, our commitment is to curate journeys – both physical and emotional -  Rather than book a holiday based on where you want to go, our objective is to create an experience around how you want to feel.  We pledge to set the scene for unique and unforgettable experiences for you and your loved-ones.  We have a reputation for  seamlessly organising every minute detail of your trip, so that you can focus on the more important things in life. Our personal approach ensures that every element, from the proposal to the trip itself, evolves along with your changing needs, wishes and desires.

What makes travel an ‘experience’ ?

For us it’s about the ability to provide something truly unique. Something memorable  that creates a much deeper connection with the destination you visit.  Here are a few bespoke examples of trips we have arranged for our clients in 2019:

  • In the corners of the Northern Hemisphere, dancing across the winter  night sky, an experience that continues to mystify us all. The Northern Lights. We organised for a family  of four to visit for 7 nights enjoying thermal pools in a secret lagoon, thrilling snowmobile rides across the ice cap, exploring lava tunnels and glaciers  and, of course, their own personal guide and astronomer to go in search of the Northern Lights.

  • Immerse yourself in Japanese culture, during this in-depth voyage of discovery and contrast. Beginning in Kyoto we organised  for  our clients the rare privilege of a private dinner with a Geisha, an authentic tea ceremony and exploring the city's hidden gardens. They learned the true meaning of Zen and spent time in a Ryokan overlooking mount Fuji.

  • A beautiful 7 night trip to Portugal exploring the ports and wines of Porto and then a luxury cruise down the Douro River to the Douro Valley, stopping off at wine estates along the way and staying over-night at  private wine estates.

  • A group of friends  wanted to explore Cuba on Harley Davidsons so we arranged for them to be escorted around Cuba for a day with Ernesto,  the son of Che Guevara who took them to cigar bars and areas of Cuba they wouldn’t have found by themselves. They ended the day at the house of a famous jazz trumpeter and his musicians for a private audience.

  • An immersive family holiday to Morocco. With only a telephone, $100 in local currency, a pack of tools and a box of clues, our family had to figure out a  series of puzzles in the mountains, city souks, coast and dunes of Morocco.

  • A 10 day African Safari adventure where the teenage children spent three days in the bush with a wildlife expert and a videographer creating their own wildlife documentary.

  • A 'Lost & Found' experience for a senior partner of a finance company who was, in his words, ‘burnt out’ and had lost his work/life balance. We dropped him onto Vancouver Island by helicopter with no more than provisions for 48 hours and some directions. Then, with the assistance of our expedition team on the ground and a prominent life-coach, he went through a well needed transformation over 7 days.

  • A couple from Miami wanted to discover  the Scottish Highlands by Rolls-Royce. They chose their model and we delivered a brand new Dawn Black-Badge to Inverness airport. They started their journey at Skibo Castle for two nights, Gleneagles and then on to  St Andrews. They played golf  at St Andrews Old Course, visited Whisky distilleries, enjoyed falconry and horse-riding and even caught their own trout cooked by the Gleneagles chef for dinner.

  • Caribbean Family Treasure Hunt. After three nights at a luxury resort in Mustique  the children were handed a ‘treasure map’ at breakfast. The family were then escorted on to a fully crewed yacht and so began a 3 day sailing adventure using the map to follow clues around some of the lesser known  Caribbean islands and coves. Along the way we planned surprises such as a beach bbq, snorkelling etc. until ultimately they found the ‘treasure’ – This trip has also worked well for proposals and anniversaries.

  • An ultimate party. A group of 12 people for a 40th birthday celebration. We  created  a  pop-up camp , with heated igloo tents on a glacier in Iceland. We  flew in a DJ from Reykjavik and they partied all night under the Northern Lights.

Mark Allvey, Managing Director

Mark has spent 30 years in the luxury hotel sector, including senior roles at One&Only Resorts, Oberoi, and Rocco Forte Hotels.  One of his abiding travel memories is of  approaching the almighty cascades of Iguazú Falls by helicopter: "Above the roaring wall of water that separate Brazil and Argentina, technicolour rainbows come and go in the clouds of mist around you. After viewing the falls from above, we saw them from underneath in a jet boat – a gratifyingly real (and wet) encounter! I find getting up close with nature awe-inspiring."  Email Mark

Chris Brunning headshotChris Brunning, Product Director

Chris  began his career planning overseas expeditions at World Challenge, part of the TUI Group. He then spent 5 years at Brown + Hudson, heading up product creation and managing key client relationships. Chris recalls exploring the backcountry of Yellowstone National Park, with features so unique they've seldom been seen before. "Imagine petrified forests, terraced falls and mud volcano springs. At a secluded clearing, we found a surprise  picnic had been set-up around a camp fire. The opportunity to watch herds of bison and elk grazing as the sun began to set was unforgettable."  Email Chris

Edward Light HeadshotEdward Light, Operations Director

With over 20 years’ tour operating experience, including management roles within TUI and Kuoni, Ed has a wealth of knowledge of destinations such as the Indian Ocean, Africa and Caribbean. A particular highlight was a morning bush walk in South Africa: "Having climbed to the top of a rocky kopje in the Sabi Sands game reserve, we were stunned into silence by the view of the rising sun over Mozambique, accompanied by the dawn chorus.  We could hear lions roaming a few hundred metres below, their unmistakable roar carrying across the savannah.  It was chilling in some ways, but so memorable." "Can’t thank Niquesa enough for how much my family enjoyed our holiday in Iceland - the food, the landscapes, everything was unreal and all tailored exactly to our preferences.
